That's why we've gone out of our way to work with suppliers whose commitment to ethical, social, and environmental responsibility match our own.

  • RAW MATERIAL
  • OUR FABRIC MILL

Raw Silk Sourcing:

Mulberry Silk from the Zhejiang Province, China.

Our silk is sourced from the Zhejiang province of China, where silk production originated 5,000 years ago.

The central city, Hangzhou, is known as “Home of the Silk”, and the culture runs deep; our partner’s Grandmother still raises silk worms in wide, flat baskets filled with mulberry leaves each spring. She then brings the cocoons to one of the local collection sites that spring up throughout the city during the harvest season.

Fabric Mill Profile:

Zhejiang Cathaya International Co Ltd.

Well known within China for their beautiful silk scarves, Cathaya is a heritage brand in its own right (our partner describes it as the “Hermes of China”). They also operate a robust import and export business and have developed a reputation as a leader in innovation. Even if we hadn’t already known them for years, there was no better partner to help us develop our proprietary 100% Machine Washable Silk. Their state-of-the art facility, nestled in the hills outside of Hangzhou, converts raw silk into our woven silk fabric, using no harmful chemicals or added softeners.

  • OUR DYE HOUSE
  • OUR FACTORY

Dyeing/Printing Factory Profile:

High Fashion Co Ltd.

Dye houses have come under scrutiny in recent years, but High Fashion has always been a step ahead of the curve. They maintain Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification which verifies the absence of numerous harmful chemicals such as AZO colorants, formaldehyde, cadmium and nickel. Their commitment to healthier standards meant they were able to accommodate our special multi-step process without using the chemical additives many mills typically use.

Thanks to their investment in a large digital printing machine, our prints use a lot less dye and create much less waste water that the older, cheaper methods.

Garment Factory Profile:

Zhejiang Tongtex Fashion Co Ltd.

Along with holding certification from Amfori’s BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative), Tongtex is WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) certified annually.

Workers are paid a fair, living wage and laws regarding workers' safety conditions and welfare are strictly observed. Accommodations such as air conditioning, laundry rooms, and recreational areas far exceed what is generally provided at other factories.

Nicole typically visits at least once a year, and has personally worked with some of the same patternmakers and technicians at this facility for years.
